I have a question about your M Graham paints. I recently taught a kid's art class and I had them use Prang watercolors so everyone would be on the same palette page. I noticed that the paints were shiney in their paint boxes....and they also dried shiney when some of the kids used a heavily loaded brush with an equally heavy hand.

I inherited a bunch (62 tubes) of Dutch artist quality watercolors....and I'm getting low on some of my favorites and I see M. Graham has similar colors...with a much lower price. I also happen to know that Prang and MG use a similar formula for binding the pigments.

If I were to be heavy handed with M Graham watercolor on paper would it dry shiney like the Prang paints did? My local art store carries M. G and I would very much make it my go-to brand...with no shine!

Love your new book.....Dotti

The design of the Windsor Newton paint palette always reminds me of a formal English garden or a neat old house. ;) I watched some of the videos at M. Graham - fun! I thought the job of checking the paint color against other brands would be fun! Hope your weekend was wonderful. xoxo

Now I understand why Jane (Davila) said that quilters don't know how to use negative space effectively. We see the object (block) without a clear understanding of how to support the block in layers with thread, pattern, color and texture. We tend to use "stitch in the ditch" and "stippling" in those spaces because it's easy and doesn't detract from our blocks. This space can be filled with all kinds of amazing things with a little play and practice.

Hi there, this is my first time visiting your blog and I confess that I'll need to come back when I have a little more time to check it out. I arrived here from the Create Mixed Media site and would love to have the pattern for the little pouch. You've also inspired me to start thinking about embellishing and re-purposing old or little used clothing. Of course, I have no time right now, but I have a great light wool unstructured sweater jacket that's just asking for embellishments to cover up the holes the moths were nice enough to leave. My mantra for that particular item might change to 'tart it up' instead of 'throw it out'!!! LOL!

I will think of you and your Man as I do my yoga this weekend. Wishing you hours of relaxation and joy. (Negative space has always thrown me. I know what it is, but I always have to stop and mentally think about what it isn't.) Have fun!!! xoxo

Just to say 'good morning' - a fascinating walk. I am just home from a swim and didn't
see anything half as fascinating. I just have to look harder.

If you can find water brushes they are fun to use. You fill the handle with water and a gentle squeeze releases it. I always carry one with my sketch book to use with water soluble pencils.
